I so want to be in the Al Gore timeline. Bush picked up 3 electoral votes by lying to Nevada about yucca mountain, Ralph Nader siphoned off Dem votes, and one of the 'stop the count' rioters is now on the supreme court. Fuck the nazi bastard Rush Limbaugh who went from 1 station to 50 with no advertisers. Fuck Rupert Murdoch who got US citizenship just to by more media outlets. Fuck Scalito. Fuck the 'both sides' mainstream media. Fuck the washington post, its credibility died when KMG did. Fuck the repubs who pretended to care so much about little Elian. I swear to god I'm still in one of the matrix battery pods. Get me out of here Morpheus.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fun fact: if 1% of the Florida Nader voters had instead voted for Al Gore instead, Bush wouldn't have been President.

This is why it's important not to protest vote 3rd party in the General election.

I can feel your justified rage from here, but...

I swear to god I’m still in one of the matrix battery pods. Get me out of here Morpheus.

I'm in stitches. Didn't see that one coming. And yes, I too am willing to ascend into a greater world of Gnostic horror; it might not be so bad.

what the fuck

why would you do this to me

why would you make me cry on a perfectly fine day

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 117 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Btw we sorted out that climate stuff while you were sleeping. You looked like you needed it, so we just let you rest.

And social security is in a lockbox

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 40 points 3 days ago

And we have universal basic income, paid by the productivity gains due to automation. Why don't we just spend the day at the beach?

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's not all great ..

Let's not forget the oil crisis. We have way too much oil, since all cars were mandated to run on trash.

And the glaciars are now on the attack.

if we had taken him seriously, we would be jocking about it like we joke about Y2k.

all that fear mongering for nothing... only because that real fear mongering was used to avoid that disaster.

[–] Flocklesscrow@lemmy.zip 91 points 3 days ago (4 children)

You mean Clarence Thomas didn't put his criminal thumb on the scale to tip the five-justice majority in Bush v. Gore, which halted the manual recount of disputed ballots in Florida, effectively awarding the presidency to George W. Bush?

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Either that or Roger Stone, Joel Kaplan, and a host of other deplorable people failed to stop the recount with their riot.

I love to imagine the police actually doing their job and breaking it up the second that Republican Congressman gave the order to riot.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I have a clear memory in high school in 1991 of seeing a newspaper clipping posted about the Anita Hill testimony. I had no idea how bad Republican corruption was going to get.

[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 days ago

“She only said all that to get famous” was something I heard a lot of during Lewinsky. Violent barf.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

ginny helped the Heritage Foundation in 2000, the brook bro's riot.

kavanaugh was involved in the shit show as well. funny stuff that.

[–] lars@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ginny is the worst human on Earth. But not even the worst person in her marriage.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

yeah they're in some sick twisted contest to see who can be more despicable. it's a match made in the 9th plane of hades.

We are in the worst timeline and that’s an inconvenient truth.

[–] niktemadur@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Many horrible things that were preventable, happened.
But you know why what happened?

It was the very same mediocre electoral stupidity we see today, the precious, lazy assholes, easily-manipulable into inaction, who latched onto the murdoch/limbaugh/drudge report propaganda of the time.

9/11 was early in the Bush presidency, it probably would have happened if Al Gore was president.

There's a chance the US response would have been different, but I won't hold my breath, although it would be likely we'd have much better climate policies

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

We 100% would have invaded.

Would we have stayed so long? Probably, TBH. Obama stayed, and pendulum would've swung back to McCain anyway.

😭 Why can’t I live in this timeline?! 😭

[–] Ptsf@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I just wish 2024 went different. It's weird being converted into what is essentially a Russia level fascist state in less than a year. Dump constantly speaks about being the president that's done more than any in the last 100 years, and I don't see why people aren't believing him. We're not getting out of this hole in our lifetime. It's over. The highest office has legitimized double think, propaganda, lying, criminal rape, etc. We're cooked as far as bringing respect or honor to government goes.

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, we certainly aren't getting out of it in trump's lifetime.

Make your own timeline.

Join a local mutual AID ASAP, and/or a local chapter of a grassroots led political action group (if there are non, look into how to start one).

Forget doomscrolling, forget touching grass, let's fix this fucking world together!

Oh my god, I've gone back in time! I have to do something to avert the coming disaster!

Anybody know where I can find a bulletproof vest to fit a gorilla?! And a birthday cake?

The time machine makes you younger, you come out of it a child.

when you enter the enclosure to give Harambee the bulletproof suit, the zookeepers see you in the Gorilla enclosure, they shoot Harambe to protect you.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

You son of a bitch

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Oh and Nader got 5% of the vote so we actually have a real populist party

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's the guy who invented the internet!

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

He never claimed to invent the internet. He sponsored the legislation that funded the development of DARPAnet.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Internet? Didn't know what you mean. But so much great content on the information superhighway.

[–] a_cuddly_fox@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Where do you think the term "al gore rhythm" comes from?

I think the 9/11 attacks would've happened regardless.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

Maybe if the administration wasn't staffed with incompetent ghouls, they would've taken Ahmad Shah Massoud's warnings more seriously.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

Let's go back and find out.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

The president was briefed and didn't take it seriously. It's 50/50.
