Went to take care of my sis in laws garden as she is on holiday. Beautiful garden with native plants and edible things.

I was scraping weeds from between the tiles when her MIL walked in (husbands mother). When she saw me doing that she said her husband had some Roundup I could use so it would be quicker.

Nearly threw a spade at her head. Fucking Roundup lmao. Yes let me use fucking poison in an edible garden where a cat and a child chill in a regular basis. For some weeds.

I swear to God some people just want to see the world burn.

I kindly explained why that would be a bad idea and she could see my point.

Wisconcom is back again 🙄 http://archive.today/2025.07.19-035527/https://lemmy.world/u/Saulw

He’s technically not on Lemmygrad, so I guess he hasn’t broken the deal that @CriticalResist8@lemmygrad.ml proposed.

We managed to stop a weapons shipment going through our port. Even a judge has now ruled it illegal. A while ago one did go through and we increased pressure, with success.

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Thank you so much.

Austrian neo nazi Felix Baumgartner, famous for jumping from high altitudes, died today doing what he loved. Jumping from high altitudes.

So the main stage of a festival nearby burned down just now (Tomorrowland, huge festival). Not only are people treating it like some 9/11 (festival didn't start, nobody hurt), the media were spreading fake AI images of a burned down stage as well. Scary stuff. Guess that happens when you need to be the first to get the clicks.

It will never cease to suprise me the speed in which the DPRK builds towns:

February/July

[–] ahriboy@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 23 hours ago

I guess DPRK is rapidly catching up to counter RFA narrative

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 3 days ago

So jealous. Here in the Netherlands they are planning a neighborhood in Utrecht, where they will only start building in 2035.

[–] thoughtful_poster@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

hello comrades. i got laid off from my job. i have about a year of free money from the government coming. i would love your suggestions on how to spend this time

currently my plans are:
learning french
reading das kapital along with david harvey lectures
putting a lot of effort in to making nice food

[–] Commiejones@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 2 days ago

If you have the space plant a herb garden. Once established herbs are generally low maintenance and fresh herbs are an easy +10% bonus to your cooking skills.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Blackshirts and Reds from Michael Parenti is a good book to include in your plans!

Also, I am sorry for your loss in your job. Hope this opens a door for a better future for you.

thank you, to be honest i'm glad to see the back of it

I finally figured out why these images wouldn’t load. I had to add an exception for lemmygrad.ml because pbs.twimg.com is on the no-no list. It seems that domain is a x/Twitter thing.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Well, that may explain why people are unable to see content that I post from the DPRK/China like the following:

I could solve this restriction by downloading the pictures and then uploading it to Lemmygrad. However, the videos can't be processed this way due to it being heavier. 🤔

BTW do you have official DPRK sources on what their GDP for 2023 or 2024 is ? All I can find are Bank of Korea (i.e. South Korea) estimates and I have absolutely no reason to trust these.

[–] rainpizza@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There is a book that have plenty of sources from the DPRK in regard to their GDP and other economic indicators:

Phillip H. Park, History of Economic Management in North Korea, Routledge, London & New York 2025 -> https://1lib.sk/book/116565577/4da96d/history-of-economic-management-in-north-korea-from-planned-economy-to-socialist-enterprise-system.html

[–] midas@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 day ago

That makes approximatively 10% growth a year, which is strong but not too surprising when compared with typical USSR (under Stalin) or chinese growth figures. Also the reference year is a covid year, in which I expect production was slightly lower, which could make for slightly stronger growth figures (but still very impressive).

It's really great to see the DPRK growing this fast, especially when compared with the failing economy of the south.

Nice

Had the honor to create a garden for a friend this weekend. It was my first garden I have done for someone else. I made a border with native bee friendly plants. I go to the gym quite often but there are some muscles that the gym can't train that only manual labor seems to target lol. My forearms are sore as fuck from removing grass, lifting tiles and stuff.

Political wise things seemed to have died down a bit for some reason. Maybe because of the holiday but then again life goes on and things can be done. Bit of a bummer.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

With me living in the Benelux, it amazes how little I hear and know about Luxembourg. I feel like as someone living in the Netherlands I feel like I still don't know enough about the country, even though I was there for a couple of days last summer

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 4 days ago

A tax haven full of french speaking germans. The left-wing movement died once the steel industry went kaput.

[–] bennieandthez@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

do they even have culture of their own? i always seen them as a belgium larping as another state for tax haven reasons.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

They speak their own language called Luxembourgish which developed from a German dialect but it seems they speak French more. When I was in Luxembourg I heard more French. Kind of a shame.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Luxembourgish is basically the dialect they speak in trier but with more french loanwords mixed in - it was constructed post-ww2 for obvious reasons. French is more popular due to the large Portuguese, french and belgian diaspora/commuters, so luxembourgish is only prioritized by like the local right-wing culture war people.

Fun fact its also spoken in Arlon in belgium but is practically extinct there.

[–] KrupskayaPraxis@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Really? I actually know a Luxembourgish song about how refugees should be accepted into Luxembourg. It doesn't seem like it is only prioritized by right wingers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQ4agzfiqPA

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Local people speak it of course, its not as politicized as Ukrainian for example, but its losing ground to French which is spoken by more people. So, the culture war types usually want to enforce it as the sole national language, as the large Portuguese and francophone population refuses to learn it. Similar to how flemish speakers in belgium usally know french better than francophones do dutch/flemish.

I mean it's a country with a population the size of Rotterdam only most of them are living pretty comfortable, so no real outrageous shit happens there.

Last I heard they do have free public transport though. Good hiking trails too.

Also: Belgium has a part of Luxemburg too. Nothing ever happens there either. Just small villages in between rolling hills.
