Where did that 3rd/middle row in the car come from?

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Wait, why is a George H. W. Bush figure included in the JFK assassination set?

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

Remember, there where about 6 future presidents in Dallas that day

“with legos” is the boomer version of “in minecraft”

I think it's nice when people combine their hobbies.

If you've had that many attempted assassinations against your leaders then you might just be the bad guys.

Counterpoint: fidel-peace

(honestly just looking for an excuse to post that clip, it always puts a smile on my face and makes my heart feel a bit lighter)

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

No excuse needed to post that clip but obviously assassination attempts by foreign powers and assassination attempts by the people are incomparible to the extent that there ought to be different words for each.

I wonder what Lego John Hinckley used to take his shot at Lego Ronnie Reagan

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Assassination attempt on JFK? The Lego book is telling me he lived?

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lego JFK's hair popped off and he was permanently left with his stud exposed, but he lived.

Is that how it works? I always thought that attempt = try but failed. If it succeeds it's an assassination, not an assassination attempt (same as murder v attempted murder) (sincere question)

[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

When you do something in your nth attempt the last one is still included in the number of attempts. The reason for the different rubrics is to differentiate between failed and successful attempts (difference in scale between actually murdering someone or trying and failing to do so).

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

I see, thanks rat-salute-2

[–] context@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

yeah, you can speak about "attempting" to do something before knowing the outcome, so i don't think failure is baked in. i can't really speak to the legal concept.

but the book also includes the lincoln assassination. i guess a book of only failed attempts was too thin even for a lego history coffee table book, so they had to pad it out a bit with the successful ones.

Ty for explanation o7

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"There have been so many assassination attempts on US presidents, you could write a book about it!"

The book in question:
