When firefox is not in a maximized window, the resolution of the window is very small, and changing the resolution by hand all the time is annoying, so I want to give it a fixed size. How can I do this?

By resolution, do you mean the window dimensions?

Are you on Windows? If so hold shift while closing the window and it will remember the size and position next time.

It should remember by default. If you are on Plasma, you can do a temporary fix by creating a window rule for firefox and tell it to remember it's size.
