Unironed flags are proletarian

Ironed flags are bourgeois and decadent

I will not be taking any questions thank you

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

Buying flags is participating in capitalism.

Real proles sit in a dark empty room because fun is bourgeois.

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I iron my commie flags but not my pride flags

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 year ago

This is the way.

Your problem

[–] dannoffs@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

The clothes iron is a tool of capitalist oppression and my source is that I only ever iron my clothes before a job interview.

[–] citrussy_capybara@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

steaming can also work
don’t need a steamer, can hang in bathroom while taking a hot shower
the grommets, if present, can be put in shower curtain rings for convenience

if using a machine dryer for clothes, can add flag

or if hanging indoors/outdoors, wet and hang flag

[–] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

-- I thought we were having steamed clams

-- Oh no I said steamed flags

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

Ironing flags is for straights and fascists.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why tf do some of you not own irons you can get one from a thrift store for like $5 and you should have one if you ever wear clothes nice enough to have buttons on them

Counterpoint, most wrinkles work themselves out after a couple hours of wear.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you should have one if you ever wear clothes nice enough to have buttons on them.

Most clothes, even dress clothes, are now wrinkle-free and some shouldn't be ironed at all. This is especially common for women's clothes. I genuinely do not own a single article of clothing that would ever make sense to iron.

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Really? Most of my dress shirts say wrinkle free but only one of them actually doesn’t need to be ironed and that one looks like a normal dress shirt but feels like athletic wear

Often I don’t have to iron a whole shirt, but it’s useful to fix a collar

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I do not have a single article of clothing with a collar that could be viably ironed.

Okay you get a pass

The rest of you though hexbear-retro disgost

[–] booty@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Who owns an iron in 2024? Couldn't be me.

[–] booty@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I don't own a clothes iron

[–] axont@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Trans flags with little square wrinkles pinned on a wall is so ubiquitous that I'm declaring it the standard protocol for display

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

But I don't own a flag.

Check mate, liberal.

[–] Moonworm@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do what you like with your flag.

Fuckin' centrism

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Now why would I own a flag?
If I need to say something, I'll make a banner for the occasion, but what use is a flag to me?

[–] the_itsb@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

the pride flag on my porch is a nice pop of color in the middle of drab and dreary winter!

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh hey I hadn't considered that. Gonna have to buy a flag now I guess.

If you're not handy with an iron and you don't have a garment steamer/are not going to invest in one (I strongly recommend them though - they are useful things) then remember to use a very low setting on your iron and for extra safety place a clean piece of fabric on top of your flag before ironing.

The fabric will help temper the heat coming from the face of the iron and it will reduce the likelihood of melting or getting weird shiny patterns due to the very tips of the flag's material getting melted down.

Remember that it's better to go slow and steady, using a decent amount of downward pressure, to iron synthetic fabric or blended fabric because if you go too hot it risks irreparably damaging it; you can always increase the heat of the iron if you need to but you can't un-melt your nice flags if you iron them too hot.

[–] Drewfro66@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 year ago

Ironing your flags is bourgeois decadence

[–] CptKrkIsClmbngThMntn@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I agree! I have my wife iron mine at 5:30 every morning so I can raise it at 6:00.

[–] Vncredleader@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Mine is such low quality, pretty sure it would melt.

[–] Maoo@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Steam your commie flags while you shower like a true prole

[–] principalkohoutek@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Irons are irrelevant

[–] Red_Sunshine_Over_Florida@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I was already ironing everything to begin with.

I ain't straight, why should my pride flag be?...

Because it FUCKING LOOKS BETTER!!

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

I don't own an iron so I tried the shower trick a few times and it didn't do anything shrug-outta-hecks

I think those plastic-y flags are immune

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

I don't own any flags.

[–] SnowySkyes@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Does it really matter at the end of the day?
