Also, I distinctly remember reading somewhere that you should absolutely not give cow's milk to cats, as they are highly lactose-intolerant. Is that true?

Cats can have little a milk as a treat, but it's ubiquity in media definitely created a perception that it was a normal food which it wasn't.

It's also just unhealthy for them. Really fatty and can clog their little arteries. Dairy is already kinda bad for human hearts. Imagine its impact on a 9 pound cat.
