I think it's much more common in the American south to say it. I don't know why. Source: half of my fucking family saying butt naked (alternatively, buck naked)

Also when I hear butt naked I just think of that guy in Liberia (I think) who called himself General Butt Naked. Funny name for a not funny guy.
