You use money? I have cash on me very rarely.
Money is not strictly a physical item, it's a verifiable record of tradable value. Cash is a physical representation of money usually in bills and coins, but the number in your bank account or credit card or PayPal or whatever is also money.

I'd say they're the same thing colloquially for many (physical currency), though your point is correct.
If my kid wanted a quid to go on a ride I might say 'I've no cash on me' or 'I've no money on me', even if I had my bank card, which is money by the correct definition.
I would definitely only use "cash", "change", or "bills" when referring to physical currency, but it will of course vary regionally.
