When I came to Korea I had dog meat once. It wasn't tasty, it was quite chewie and the fat was weirdly interconnected with the muscle meat.
Anyway, I never understood why it's somehow totally OK to eat a pig which is as smart as a dog, but not a dog which is grown for meat on a dog meat farm (when the conditions are similar).
I think it has more to do with the similarities of dogs and humans than intelligence. Both humans and dogs are highly social pack hunters. So we get along better. Also, much of the dog meat sold in Asia is stolen pets. Which is pretty awful.
