The most anticipated feature over the original is obviously Matter/Thread support, however, the website boasts some cool new other features such as: a flat magnet option, 5-year battery life, adjustable sensitivity, and tamper alarm.

The Amazon listing is now live but not for sale just yet: https://a.co/d/bfkgsVc

Part of me was truly hoping Apple would step in and offer to host a lemmy instance like lemmy.apple and then we could build Apple specific communities from there. But after the death of Ping... I think Apple and "social" platforms are a thing of the past.

Getting ready to dip my toe into the world of smart shades. The Lutrons look stylish, and the warranty is attractive, but the Ikea ones are so damn affordable, and I heard they have vastly improved in the past few years.

Can anybody make a recommendation for the Ikea smart shades (in particular, the honeycomb Tredansen)? Or can you justify the price of the Lutron for me somehow?

Our new place is blessed to have numerous, gigantic windows with splendid exposures, but is also cursed to have numerous, gigantic windows with splendid exposures. To outfit just the major windows into bedrooms and into the living room (for projector screen blackout) on the Luton would be like $5K.

Does anyone else have an issue with HSV ending the recording before the motion that triggered the recording has left the frame? All four of our cameras do this and it drives us crazy.

Would love to here if we’re alone and if anyone else has a fix…?

Hi,

I have an existing 2 wire doorbell, with a mechanical chime. I'd like to replace it with the Aqara G4 doorbell. I could care less if the old chime still works after hooking up the Aqara, but I'd just like to know if the doorbell itself will work in this setup.

If not, can I just connect the two wires in the old chime, effectively bypassing it? Or will this only cause a blazing inferno?

I'm aware that the Aqara can run on batteries, but I'd prefer to avoid that. And I already verified that my transformer provides sufficient power (8V 0.5A).

I've search high and low for an answer, consulted the manual, mailed Aqara support multiple times (no reply) and asked others in various comment sections. Hopefully I'll be able to get a straight answer here... 🤞

Thanks!

Hello,

I have an Apple TV and a HomePod. They seem to fight over the right to be the hub.

I had my Apple TV first, it has always been my "main hub". I added a HomePod to my home in the beginning of this year. However, since about a month or so, they seem to battle over the right to be the hub.

According to the iPhone/homekit view, one hub is connected, the other can't connect (however I can interact with both of them via my phone).

Whenever the HomePod "wins", all accessories become unavailable (think: hue lights etc). Only solution then is to reboot my Apple TV. After that, the HomePod shows as "unavailable", but at least everything works in my home.

How can I solve this?

IKEA filed two test reports with the FCC this month for sensors that can be added to a smarthome network. They are the Parasoll, a sensor to measure whether a window or door is open or closed. And the Valhorn, a motion sensor

I suspect the two people I want to invite have old Macs and iPads stashed in a closet somewhere that are preventing the invitations I send from my home from going through. anyone have a fool-proof system to try to get them access?

I think I've tried almost everything, including resetting both my home and their home. I was able to invite one family member to my home who lives with me, but the other two who live in a different house with another apple home setup never get the invites.

Anyone have hands on experience with a reputable weather station? I’ve used Ambient Weather hardware in the past but wonder if there’s something similar that would be available in HomeKit.
