I've wanted a badge that shows the instance uptime and couldn't find any, so I created one. It's available at https://uptime.lemmings.world/{your-domain}.svg and gets its data from fediverse.observer.

Regardless of the negative aspects, Meta joining the Fediverse will definitely make the numbers of active users explode. This will probably bring the network and its concepts to many people and also a matter of public debate.

Hosted on peertube by the biggest instance in the fediverse, the event of the year takes place on the day of the first big twitter migration and is traditionally kicked off by someone telling a really bad joke and then declaring "let that sink in". But seriously - Would we be already able to realize this this year? Would be fun to celebrate the diversity of communities in the fediverse.

Searching for #PeerTube in #Bing and thus #DuckDuckGo gives zero results. Bind mentions that "The search result may have adult contents has been filtered." and that "age verification is required". While DuckDuckGo just shows zero results.

I understand that there might be PeerTube instances with adult content in the search results but I don't believe all of them have adult content. I know mine does not.

Fedipunk means a story in a universe, in which the era of dezentralized social networks is already there, with all its potential consequences - or we see the transition to it.

From what I read in earlier posts and my own thinking I propose the following ones (new suggestions are of course welcome):

In case anyone is wondering, it's rqd2.

The definition of paraphilia is "a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.", which can inclde pedophilia.

It has recieved 4 censures from fediseer due to the content contained on that instance

Not a good look for Lemmy to be promoting any instance like that.

The fediseer now allows instance admins to self-tag their instance as they want. Those tags can then be consumed via the API.

For example, one could use these tags to discover all instances focusing one or more topics at the same time. Places like pangora.social can use them to find more instances to suggest in their lists.

On the flip side, instance admins can also use them to help improve their blocklists in a "positive" manner. For example, let's say that you want your instance to be SFW, you could explicitly block any instance self reporting as "porn" or "gore" etc. Along with the endorsements and hesitations, this would provide a lot of tools to ensure you associate only with the people you fit well.

You can add or delete tags in the GUI or directly via the API as an instance admin

The new tags_csv arg on the /whitelist endpoint, will also return all instances which match any of the tags in your csv.

Currently lemmy is like the speedboat next to the heavy steam boat of Mastodon etc. While lemmy is still dynamic and flexible and can introduce new features easily without scaring off its established user base, mastodon can not do such experiments so easily. Now, if lemmy gains more momentum in the fediverse and establishes features, which other services don't have, it could really push innovation in the Fediverse further. What do you think?

How should I do this?

I understand not all videos get mirrored.

Can I create accounts on multiple instances and prompt them to mirror each other? What instances should I focus on?

My Lemmy Schedule app now includes the option to get notified of new posts in a specific community!

In case you haven't heard about the app before, here's what other things it can do:

• schedule a post and post it to multiple communities
  • you can upload an image as well and choose between uploading to your Lemmy instance or to Imgur
• create a recurring post that gets posted at a specific date and time (especially useful for daily/weekly/monthly/end-of-month threads)
• schedule pinning and unpinning of posts (instance and community)
  • the pinning and unpinning can be specified as part of creating a post
• the aforementioned notifications about unread posts from a specific community (useful for mods)
  • can be also set using a recurring schedule, so you can get the report daily/weekly/monthly etc.

Today I learnt that at beehaw.org you don't really have to break any instance/community rules to have your comments removed by the admin. In their wiki page they wrote over the top, corporate-sounding articles about how "Beehaw aspires to be a diverse place" where "everyone plays an important role in that mission", how they are against Reddit-style power mods and in favour of fair moderation, but the reality seems to be quite the opposite.

I'm really glad Lemmy is not Reddit and there's always plenty of alternatives, which makes me appreciate Lemmy even more. No more yellow icons on my communities subscription list. 🏸🐝

I'm not yet fully sure what pirate crews are but they are somehow heavily build on open-source software and they protect minorities and distribute wealth but put more focus on free speech and self sufficiency. Jesus Houses also distribute wealth (but not as much) and protect minorities way less (we are speaking about progressive christians here). Work spaces can protect minorities but not as much and they can also distribute wealth but also not as much.
